Red Holstein (RH)

  • 23,623 Herdbook cows

Performance: 8,789 kg milk, 4.25 % fat, 373 kg fat, 3.49 % protein, 307 kg protein

The breeding goal for the Holstein Friesian and the Red Holsteins are defined by the German Holstein Association (Deutscher Holstein Verband-DHV) as following:

  • Profitable and productive dairy-type cows
  • Genetic production potential: 10,000 kg milk at 4.0 % fat and 3.5 % protein
  • Lifetime production of more than 40,000 kg milk
  • Stature: 145–156 cm
  • Body weight: 650–750 kg

The breeding aim are cows with a high milk performance, excellent feet and legs and healthy udders combined with a good milkability. What goes without saying for the red breeds is the high fertility combined with longevity. The modern breeding program which is accomplished with the Eurogenetic partners ensures the implementation of these demands.

Red Holstein (DN) - Red dual purpose breed (DN)

  • 2,324 herdbook cows

Performance: 7,442 kg milk, 4.35 % fat, 324 kg fat, 3.62 % protein, 270 kg protein

To fulfill the requirements for the Red breed concerning range fattening resp. branded beef programs the breeding aim DN was established. The breeding program DN includes all red cows which carry up to 25 % Red Holstein blood. This step had to be taken to preserve the traditional good fattening and adaptability traits of the Red dual purpose breed.

The DN breed combines good milk performances with excellent beef performances and fitness in the best possible way. It also improves the protein amount in the milk and consequently the paid milk price.
